After three years of being in Colorado Springs, I had not once gone to Palmer Lake... t'was about damn time to go.

On a warm summer morning, now having been a week in my dorm room back at USAFA. Having survived the hours of briefs, and repeated expectations. I decided it was time to get away for a little bit.
Didn't have to go too far, but I needed my coffee first, and hit up the Starbucks and snagged a small caramel Frappuccino with Siri's directions going nuts and yapping at me to "proceed to the route" over and over again. Shush Siri! I need my coffee!
So I to Siri's content I proceeded 20 minutes north to Palmer Lake Recreational Area which on such a fine day was packed. But my goal wasn't to hit up the beach after I read the NO SWIMMING SIGN!
My goal was to test out the lovely new Hammock that I got and start reading a book (both of which my parents gave me, thank you mama and Paps) by John McCain titled Why Courage Matters.
I found a little spot tucked away from the hazardous frisbee golf players. I was unsure how safe it was the moment a frisbee hit my enclosure of trees as I relaxed in my hammock since the thrower had really missed the mark on where the hole/net/container was.
Yet, even after two chapters of reading I had to get up and moving. My butt rarely stays still for more than two hours. Besides I wanted to walk around the lake and snag some pictures for this post. And yes! I'm actually writing and posting this on the same day I went because I found a little gem that I think everyone should know about!

After safely traversing the battle field of frisbee golf warriors I was on the other side of the lake, (its a pond though in reality, it did not take that long to walk around it). I noticed something...you guessed it a COFFEE SIGN!
Only problem was that it was on the other side of some train tracks. There was a bridge, but your blondey had missed the path to go up to the bridge. So I just decided to make my own and scramble up the dirt and sod. Some old guy shook his head at me, but I was definitely on a path...maybe not the right one. At least I wasn't one of the few who got caught crossing the railroad tracks. Popo got'em!

The views from the bridge were nice but the best part was that no frisbee golf player could get me up here!
Perfectly Elevated Coffee
I had completed my mission to get to the coffee shop! Traveling great distances of maybe 0.5 miles over trail tracks, across a road, up some steps and then through the wrong door! But I made it!
I had made it to a small hole in the wall, with one table where a gentlemen already sat doing work who I would later find out was a friend of Tara who worked at Perfectly Elevated coffee. Now, now, don't hate me, but I didn't get coffee. I was in the mood for something more refreshing and sweet.
I got Tara's recommendations and settled with the Cranberry Vanilla and a slice of lemon juice. Though you can get an orange, or blueberries instead too. I usually don't drink too much tea, but I was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing it was. And there was a hint of sweet vanilla in it along with Apple Juice. It sounds weird, but honestly I'm stealing this life hack.
Also it was cheaper than Starbucks. Just putting that out there.
So if you're in the Palmer Lake area or taking a jog or cycling around the reservoir consider stopping in by Perfectly Elevated Coffee to get yourself something as a treat. Tara said she loves to stay busy! If you like your experience feel free to give her a like on facebook here @elevatedbeans
She's got my thumbs up!
