She wanted Poke...I just wanted something warm and savory from a little place off the block which had a little tale to tell.

Asian Cookery
After a lucrative trip to REI where I broke bank on a three-dollar sticker and Lily got me the one dollar savings with her benefits we were soon forced to take a detour due to an accident on Academy Blvd going through parking lot shops to find Asian Cookery.

Lily originally wanted Poke, but in a span of ten minutes we agreed to try Asian Cookery. There was no real debate, simply neither of us making a decision, just waiting it out until one of us chose.
Yet, both of us were a little skeptical when we entered a pretty beat up parking lot with few cars and to the left was a run down Chevron gas station. Lily's first thought was that it was closed, but the open sign was flashing and two individuals sat outside.
With only one small sign and Google maps telling us we were 70 feet from our destination we walked inside. The first thing I noticed was that I was greeted by a girl who's name is Lucy with a smile. The interior was small with only two tables which fit four, and an aroma coming from the kitchen, which did make my stomach grumble again.
Now neither of us have been here before, but I had my fair share of ramen, miso and asian stylized foods. Yet Lucy recommended the popular Wonton Dry Noodle Bowl and explained to us the deserts which were available. Because I definitely butchered the name when trying to pronounce Pulut Hitam ice cream which is a red bean rice sweet treat over vanilla ice cream. Instead the description of "cake" got the attention of my sweet-tooth. Kuih Dadar (can be compared as Coconut Crepes, and today's flavor was coconut.

"You don't need a silver or fork to eat good food, you may need chopsticks"
But I wanted something warm and savory, in other words...soup! The Wonton Soup Noodle Bowl. As we sat down, though to our right the only other table was taken by a massive floor plan which some of the employees were huddled around.
After striking up a conversation with the owner, due to my bantering objection of sharing my food with Lily who wanted to try it. He told me a tid bit about this food venture. His wife who is from Malaysia has been cooking, and teaching cooking for thirty years. After the kids went to college they opened up a western food truck. Yet, after three years that wasn't cutting it for them, so together they opened up Asian Cookery off of Academy Blvd just past Woodmen Rd.
Though the atmosphere was small, the cheerfulness and outgoing staff made it a memory. Its not like your typical chain restaurants. Instead its people who are genuinely interested in your own experience with their meal. For those looking for authentic Malaysian home cooked food this is it. So much so I would recommend this spot to exchange cadets.

If you want to come with a group of friends, as of right now though they are remodeling and hopefully will finish expanding in 6-8 weeks. To include more seating space, and hangout spots for those to dine in.
I can't wait to come back and see it in October. But for now, there is take out and delivery which I will be taking advantage of during this upcoming fall semester.
