Originally all we wanted was food, specifically crepes.... but we found ourselves wandering a pop up farmers market letting our pay-checks irresponsibly fly away on this adventure.

Date: 18JUL2021

Time of Travel: 59 min

With the demands of my summer job (which I have no regrets of choosing) I was getting a bit stir crazy again. Rather than exploring and going out, my evenings or mornings, or days off are spent catch up on sleep which I give up to accommodate an inconsistent schedule. My sleep schedule believe me at Camp USAFA is out of wack! But it is SO worth it!

However, it has gotten in the way of this fun hobby, and it does seem more of chore to get out rather than to use this platform as a stress reliever. But, I've got Abby to thank for her joining me on this spontaneous adventure.

Originally our plan was to simply go down the road to the closest generic IHOP, rather than build our stomachs' of steel for our future careers. Yet that changed about 15 min prior when I decided to look up brunch places on Yelp. That app is a life saver, because we agreed that instead we were willing to drive 60 min with Probie (my blue 2014 Honda Civic) to get some damn Crepes.

After traversing the scenic route of hills and looking at the cows of Colorado we found parking in Parker Colorado over by the theater, because my butt was not even going to try to parallel park, or pay for parking; I'm balling on a budget here, and a lot of other people had the same idea.

Farmer's Market

Armed with my North Face backpack, and camera and both of our credit cards which held our limited monthly allowances. We set off down the road to La Petite Creperia.

Only to find roads blocked off, tents set up, food trucks, and butt load of people walking their dogs, while others lost their children in the middle of a Sunday Farmer's Market. We looked at the Creperia shop, and without argument we decided, Farmer's Market before they stop selling!

From trinkets of jewelry, to wooden bowls, and the Cactus, there was pretty much something there for everyone. There was no debate, my money would be spent. Both on food, and a souvenir. And my souvenir was Sid!

Say hello to........ SID!!!

Sid is a twenty-five dollar stuffed animal made entirely of alpaca or llama wool, I can't remember. He now guards and keeps Probie company. So yes, Sid will be joining me on all my next adventures! Stay tuned for those because I can't keep a consistent schedule very well.

Abby on the other hand, was more resourceful in her spending, she found free peaches at a vendor and spent six bucks on honey sticks. I've never had a honey stick before and she just said "bite it until it comes out" the honey never came out and I still have yet to open it properly. Instead the poor stick kept stretching and increasing in length as I pulled and tore like a maniac in the Creperia shop while we waited on our Crepes. Needless to say... she's never going to let that down.

La Petite Creperia

After petting countless dogs and filling up and down the blocked off street hunger had taken over my brain and we made it to the old train station parlor (which was likely remodeled because I couldn't find the train tracks anywhere) to La Petite Creperia.

And yes, it was very petite, but that gave it a cozy feel. Though it didn't help the fact that it was packed with people. One of which who was a kid with dreams to swim free-style in the Olympic Games one day when she was old enough to qualify.

She had a dope Team USA Bucket hat which matched her spunky tie dye shirt, and jandals. I need to learn a thing or two about her style. Best of luck to her!

Now of course my addiction to coffee hasn't reduced. Its simply been substituted with Monsters, Bangs and Red bulls as I pull my nine-hour shifts per day to train newbies. The classic safe way was my go-to vanilla iced Latte. You can't go wrong with that. Which La Petite Creperia didn't, but it also wasn't anything special such as Frita.

Yet, the coffee wasn't really why I was there, it was for the Crepes. Which didn't disappoint. I was at first skeptical with the combination of strawberries and lemon curds. Sweet and sour in one didn't sound that right to me. However, I was in for something spontaneous just like this day was going!

Let me tell you, I thought it sounded weird, but it was worth trying. Better than nutella and bananas which is what Abby stuck with, the good ol' classic.

But... our adventure wasn't really over yet....

We had to find a bathroom.

Poor Richard's Book Shoppe

So we headed back down the farmer's market street dodging wild children to the closest bar. Which Abby came out holding a napkin. Now this I won't let down because she again had found a prize that was free. This napkin was as soft as Sid! Who remember is made of alpaca or llama wool, one or the other. So why can't all the restaurants have high quality, degradable disposable napkins?!

Now at this point in time we were going to turn around but Abby spotted a book store sign. I was not going to object to a bookstore. If you send me in one I will not come out without a fight or I will get lost just like in Hobby lobby or Michaels.

Around the corner we found a quaint little bookstore with a bit of a story to tell. Away from the hustle and bustle of the lively market place crowded with people we walked into Poor Richard's Book Shoppe.

Small but filled with rows and rows of first hand books, who Melissa's dad used to collect. She was willing to share her story with me as Abby browsed. Her dad's obsession back in the day built up quite a collection of first hand thriller novels, several signed by the authors themselves, some of which who have passed away. However, her mother gave him an ultimatum to get rid of the books, so back in the 1990s or so he opened up a book shop in California selling the books he had collected. Then in 2008 they reallocated it to Parker, CO. Now the business is passed onto Melissa who runs it along side her husband.

If you're expecting to find the newest books that the New York Times publishes, this isn't really the place, though they do have some, but if you're looking for real gems of first generation, well kept and second hand books, most of which may have been older than me! Poor Pete's Book Shop is a place you should check out.

She mentioned to me that they are old school and don't advertise, or post on social media. The most they have is facebook which I've linked here: Poor Richard's.

But if you're in the Castle Rock area I would recommend checking out this little secret spot! If you're a lover of classics, and want to find something that's a bit more special this is the place for you.

Enjoy the barge of photos and wonky clips! STAY WILD! ;D
