It's important to get out every once in a while with friends and support them in their endeavors. It has made me realize yet again, that still... you don't have to go very far, to appreciate the little things in life.

Date: 24Oct2021

Location: Golden Gate State Park, Golden Colorado

GOLDEN GATE STATE PARK

Before the winter season hits the leaves got to change colors. After being cooped up for quite a while it was time to get up and at it again. The string of tests and essays all somehow due in the same week, burns you out. Though I'm convinced after four years it's all planned amongst each department.

Yet, with nothing more to do Lily and I made a get away into the mountains to snag the last minute shots of the Colorado aspen changing colors in the fall. After living here for three years, I had yet to get the classic instagram worthy photos of fall vibes.

2021 is a different year, and with it being my last year in Colorado for a while I wanted to get out and see what the beautiful state has to offer. The Academy exhausts you though and there are days when you really just want to stay in bed. But once you're out and about far away enough you realize there's a bit more to this. And it'll all be worth it.

Since sunset began at around 6:00 PM Lily and I left about 2 hours before. I was under the impression we already knew exactly where we were going which was Mueller State Park. But it seemed Lily was again on a rocking horse unable to decide arguing all valid points about lighting, timing, season, how far north we'd have to go.

Personally I like to keep things simple and go with the flow. I can understand her desire to get the perfect photo, which is fair. But I had just recently gotten into photography as a hobby. I have no real desire to make it professional or live my life behind the lens. I'd rather experience it through story telling, and quick simple snap shots. Which is the intent of this blog.

You don't need the perfect photo, or pristine edit. Does it help? Yes it does, but this isn't where I see my life going. I want to portray a life that is real. I won't lie we all tend to go through that stage of wanting to make it big as an influencer, or youtube star. But I've come to terms with, I don't want to be that. Just a college girl getting her degree and wanting to have some fun on her Friday afternoon.

So with our hand-dandy old reliable, google search function we settled on Golden Gate State Park....more or less I said we're going there and that's final. But we took our time and convincing Lily a few times to keep driving into the mountains, we'd get our city shots another day. Reminding her we'd miss the sunset or holy-deemed "golden hour." You learn what convinces a photographer very quickly. Hint, hint: it's all about the lighting. Especially in nature shots.

However, mother nature was gonna have a little fun with Lily today, who dressed for the occasion of fall, but...did not bring hiking boots! I didn't intend on doing too much hiking out in the state park but wandering around in the mountains on dirt paths required a bit more than cute leather bootie heels. Our objective was to take photos of the aspen trees. So first thing Lily does is head straight for the bright ass yellow tree line off the beaten path through tall blades of grass.

I told her, "watch it, there's probably a brook somewhere over there." Since the pond to our left had a drain popping out from the side and the vegetation was thicker closer to the trees. Not sure what made her so determined. Again I thought, there are plenty of trees around here. Yet, a few minutes later I hear, "Oh no....my boot got wet!"

I'm already amused at that, but with a few clicks and clacks we made our way over to the pond and I'm laughing at her trying to balance on one foot to let her boot dry in the evening air. She'll probably grumble at me later for sharing this little tale, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Sticking a plastic ziplock bag on the inside of your shoe to keep your feet dry is pretty innovative after all.

There was no real rhyme or reason for this trip. No grand goal, or desire other than to get out, get away and have some fun. Getting away into the mountains was a nice breath of fresh air that we both needed.
